The So Foot Newsletter for September 2023
IN SEPTEMBER, IT'S BACK TO SCHOOL FOR SO FOOT PHOTO FRAMES 🏫!
We missed each other, right? So this vacation? And this return? The good news with this resumption is that we will no longer leave you orphaned from our newsletters and collections as we shamefully did during this summer... In our good back-to-school resolutions, we have sworn from now on never miss a monthly shipment again. And do them every 1st of the month. Yes yes, you read it correctly. It's up to you to call us to order. Can we count on you?
Enough talking, we present to you without further delay the new collection of football photos for the month of September. Always with black & white (how else?), Roger Milla at the World Cup (this is a request from you received by email and you were right to point out this lack), the Dutch-German duel with Völler and Rijkaard and the classic cliché of an English stadium with supporters everywhere. Of course, all these photos are in a very limited edition, 11 copies per size . Presentation + some ru-ge-by products to celebrate the start of the World Cup and the France - All Blacks match this evening.
Photos
It’s a piece of football history that we start with. Not necessarily the best known in France, but a must in German and Dutch football. June 24, 1990, round of 16 of the World Cup. The FRG therefore faces the Netherlands carried by the trio Gullit-Rijkaard-Van Basten. Designated “best favorites” among the contenders for the world title, the reigning European champion missed her destiny, victim in particular of the stupidity of Frank Rijkaard , guilty of a big mistake on Völler then of an altercation, during which he spits on her . The referee doesn't want to know anything and sends the two off in the 22nd minute. Except that... as Ronaldo Koeman would later analyze: "Frank Rijkaard's red card penalized us more than Völler's on the German side." Because the match started on a good technical basis, and the Oranjes clearly dominated. From there, the game will tilt in favor of the Mannschaft, who will finally win 2 goals to 1. And will end, as Kaizer Franck predicted that day by declaring “Whoever wins this match will be world champion », with a new star on the jersey.
Black and white , we usually say in photography that it always works well . Or almost. One thing is certain: it works even better with legends, such as Bobby Charlton (number 9) or Georges Best (number 11) , united in the Manchester United jersey during the 1970-1971 season. Here they return with three teammates to the central circle after conceding a goal . Rest assured, they will end up winning 3 goals to 2 that day at home against Ipswich Town. Pelé good, Maradona better, Georges Best.
This is not a command, but it's just like it. This photo of Roger Milla with the Indomitable Lions jersey during the 1990 World Cup is part of this selection and is available on our store because one of you wrote to us at contact@boutique.so to submit your desire for have it in your living room. We therefore searched the very large database of millions of prints from our partner photographic agency IconSport to find the right photograph. The one who will succeed in aesthetically matching the talent of Roger Milla this June 23 at the San Paolo Stadium in Naples. Author of a magnificent double against René Higuita's Colombia, he won the match single-handedly and qualified, a historic feat, an African country for the first time in the quarter-final of a World Cup. Yes sir !
The neighbors of the Roudourou stadium in Guingamp did not invent the terrace with a view of the stadium. This tradition comes to us (obviously) from England since they invented football. And so the first fields and stadiums. One of the most emblematic across the Channel was that of West Ham, located in the Upton Park district: the Boleyn Ground (demolished in 2017). And at the time, we're talking about the 1970s, Hammers fans could, by climbing onto the roof of a building adjoining the enclosure, have a bird's eye view of the pitch and therefore the match. In this case, on February 14, 1972, a round of 16 replay of the FA Cup against Hereford United , ultimately won by theirs 3 goals to 1 . Smile, you were filmed, free riders!
