The most glorious period in Lille OSC's history occurred very early, during the club's first decade of existence after its creation in 1944. George Berry began the process by leading the club to a double national in 1946, before being replaced by Andre Cheuva, who managed the club for the next 12 years. Cheuva's team has regularly won the Coupe de France and ranked in the top two places in Ligue 1.
