The store's Newsletter: May 2022

MAY-MORABLE DRAWS

The month of May, the start of the sunny days, the thrush, the public holidays which follow one another. But the best among you are especially waiting for the matches in the last four of the European Cup . To celebrate this final sprint, we selected two draws from legendary Champions League matches and resurrected a draw from the PSG 96 final.

New section therefore, a photo of Arjen Robben when scoring the third goal for Bayern Munich during their demo against FC Barcelona in 2013 (first leg: 4-0; return: 0-3) and another, the photo which you chose unanimously during a vote in story on the Insta accounts of the store and So Foot, from a free kick from Juninho to the very particular trajectory against Manchester United in 2008 .

Ray old piece never before highlighted in this newsletter, a legendary photo of the Parisians' celebration after Bruno Ngotty's free kick against Rapid Vienne (1-0) in the final of the 1996 Cup Winners' Cup, at the foot of the PSG supporters' stand.

The idea behind these prints is that you like them as much as possible, so don't hesitate to suggest to us the legendary moments that you would like to see appear on our store and on arrival end up surrounded by a frame in your living room. But before presenting the new prints to you, it is difficult given the context not to start with a monument endangered by Putin's war in Ukraine: the Kiev Dynamo. This photo dating from 1970 and representing the football school of the Ukrainian capital club has been on the store since its launch and we have decided to donate the proceeds from the next sales of this photograph to the online fundraiser launched to help Vladimir Zharikov, deputy director of the club's academy, in his endeavor to evacuate children, women and civilians to Poland.

Back to lighter news, the Champions League , and those moments when football pushes us into the irrational. This shot of Arjen Robben , during the first leg of the semi-final first leg against Barça perfectly illustrates this shift into the improbable. Jordi Alba 's face in the background says it all. The left back has just been the victim of a block worthy of the greatest basketball moves from the cunning Thomas Müller , author of a double that day. Which allows the Dutchman to score the third goal. Bayern crushed everything in their path that year and Barça were no exception to the rule. Go: 4-0. Return to Camp Nou : 3-0 for the Germans. Bayern will advance to the title by beating Borussia Dortmund . Simply too powerful...

In football, the moments when you feel an entire stadium holding their breath are rare. Few of them have been able to attract so much attention to themselves. Juninho Pernambucano falls into this category. Thanks to his legendary free kicks which traumatized Rémi Vercoutre in training, gave nightmares to almost all Ligue 1 goalkeepers but also to the best European goalkeepers (right, Oliver Kahn ?). And to illustrate this, we offer you a photo where we perfectly feel the fear: Manchester United in the round of 16 first leg of C1 in 2008. OL fell that year in the worst draw with the Red Devils , favorites of the competition and a Cristiano Ronaldo at the start of his hegemony. The first leg leaves room for hope with a sublime goal from Benzema, but Tévez spoils everything at Gerland . On the way back, no miracle, CR7 extinguished the hopes of Les Gones. Losing against the future winner of the competition and pocketing the title of French champion for the 7th time in a row will help digest this elimination.

To celebrate this new season at the end of the Champions League without PSG, nothing better than a beautiful shot of the only Parisian title on the European scene: the 1996 C2, won against Rapid Vienna on a big strike from Bruno Ngotty on a free kick . The print, present on the store since its launch, represents the joy of Luis Fernandez's players a few seconds after this opening score, at the foot of the red and blue stand. A moment of collective jubilation that is far too rare at the moment and which should therefore be appreciated in light of the expectations generated in recent years by the XXL recruitments of the Qatari management 😉

The posters

Attention, collector!

This is a great first. During our So Foot Nostalgie flea market last April , we invited a screen printing workshop to print live in front of the public present three posters designed especially for the occasion.

Of the thirty or so copies of each, we have half of each left. So we decided to share them with you by putting them on sale in the store.

Here are the three visuals straight from the imagination of our super artistic director Elyse Delahaie.

The signed book!

RE: Attention, collector!

RE: This is a great first!

Also during our So Foot Nostalgie flea market last April , we organized a signing session for the legend of the 90's: Tony Vairelles.

He has signed around fifty photos (which you will find very soon on the store) but also around thirty 90s So Foot books, for which he had already signed the preface.

That's why we asked him to autograph them on the big day.
If a good twenty left, there were ten left, which we put on boutique.so. First come, first served!
